SPSS （Statistical Package for the Social Sciences）统计分析软件是一款在调查统计行业、市场研究行业、医学统计、政府和企业的数据分析应用中久享盛名的统计分析工具，是世界上最早的统计分析软件，由美国斯坦福大学的三位研究生（Norman H. Nie, Dale H. Bent, and C. Hadlai Hull.）于 1968 年研制， 1984 年SPSS首先推出了世界上第一个统计分析软件微机版本 SPSS/PC+ ，极大地扩充了它的应用范围，并使其能很快地应用于自然科学、技术科学、社会科学的各个领域。2022年11月最新的SPSS版本为29.0（几乎每年8月都推出一个新版本），SPSS已经拓展了可编程能力，支持开源软件R和Python。 

2006年5月18日，SPSS China成立于上海，SPSS China在北京和广州都设有分支机构。

2009年7月28日，SPSS公司被IBM公司收购

2009-2010年，SPSS一度被更名为IBM PASW (Predictive Analytics SoftWare)

开源免费的SPSS替代软件PSPP，只有40兆，实现了SPSS所有基本功能（复杂的、高级的分析功能，目前还没有）。
界面几乎完全一样，包括syntax都完全一样，SPSS用户几乎不用任何转换。

如果想更改界面语言（中文操作系统，PSPP默认的界面语言是中文zh_CN）, 如果想使用英文界面：

（1）打开安装目录C:\Program Files\PSPP\share\locale

（2）删除或重命名【zh_CN】文件夹，那么PSPP的默认界面语言就改为英文。
